Founded in 1834, St. Abrahams Lutheran Church was once called Shavers Church or Abrahams Church. This country ministry was an important part of the community of Beckleysville, which by 1875 was a thriving town with a population of 400.

The Church nave was erected in 1856, and the formally organized Lutheran congregation obtained pastoral services when St. Abrahams Church joined a parish. With the destruction of the Beckley Paper Mill in 1902 and the construction of Pretty Boy Reservoir in 1925 (which flooded the area), the business center that was Beckleysville disappeared. However, St. Abrahams continued to thrive.

The Church was renovated in 1905 and a bell tower was added in 1915. In 1975, the existing Church was extensively renovated and a Christian Education unit was added.

In 2006, the church celebrated its 150th anniversary of offering Lutheran ministry to Beckleysville.

Today, St Abrahams Lutheran Church continues its long-time commitment to serving the spiritual needs of our community.

Our Church Family Today...

Our Mission:

St Abrahams Lutheran Church is a community of faith committed to sharing the love of Christ through worship, the Word, the Sacraments, and acts of love and mercy.

St. Abrahams is not a large church. Our services are simple and heartfelt. The people who worship here share a fellowship of friendship and neighborliness that enhances their desire to welcome others – like you and your family! We strive to uphold community traditions (like making apple butter) and supporting old fashioned “family fun”.
